What happens if you change your mind about what you bought?
When you buy something online from an Irish or EU website, you get an extra protection of a 14-day cooling off period, where you can cancel or change your mind, without giving a reason.
The 14 days start once you physically get the goods.
Some products are excluded from the 14-day cooling off period, such as:
- Personalised or custom-made items
- Food that spoils quickly
- Earrings or swimwear, that can’t be returned for hygiene reasons
- Hotel bookings, car rental, or concert tickets
- Transport services like bus, rail, or air
The cost of the return postage is usually paid by you or the seller, depending on the seller’s return policy. The seller must tell you before you buy a product whether you will have to pay the return postage. If they don’t, you can claim the costs back from the seller.
If you buy online outside of the EU, you may not have the same rights, so check the seller’s return policy before you buy.
